Alaskan huskies are sled dogs with a special mix of malamute, Siberian husky, and hound. They come in all shapes and sizes, but their hearts are all the same-filled with courage, determination, devotion, and an uncanny ability to understand and work as part of a team with humans. In the extreme conditions of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, almost no factor is more important than the relationship forged between the mushers and their dogs. Facing raging blizzards, and temperatures as low as 45 degrees below, their extraordinary bond can mean more than win or lose-it can mean life or death.
Ride with the mushers and their dogs as they cross the thrilling Alaskan wilderness, climb the Alaska Range, past Mount McKinley and along the mighty Yukon, and then cross a portion of the frozen Bering Sea on the 1,110 mile race from Anchorage to Nome. Learn what brings the mushers back to the race, year after year.
